Romantic Venezia

-

Everyone talks about the smell in Venezia. We were there at the start of winter and we were lucky enough not to have had to experience the potent aroma that others have experienced.

After our initial confusion on arrival, due to some language barriers, we found our way to the ferry. Taking in the historic architecture in the afternoon light, was a wonderful first impression. We spent three days meandering through the cobbled lane ways intersecting iconic canals, exploring its history and beauty. We took in the palace and basilicas; and visited Burano to see coloured houses and buy lace work. We enjoyed copious amounts of coffee, food and wine… and I do mean copious!

It was a great start to our Italian odyssey adventure.

Welcome to London!

Welcome to old London Town!

From the squirrels that scurried around the autumn leaves in St James Park to the excess that is Harrods, it was an interesting stop in our adventures.

First impressions? Busy.

Taking the tube, whilst efficient, is awful! The lack of fresh air and fumes that have built up underground are not a great mix for an asthmatic. It must have been my least enjoyable experience of London. But the one thing I used the most.

Naively we thought that London wouldn’t be too busy in the ‘tourist hot spots’ given we were in off peak season. We did not quite envisage just how busy it could get and it really made me fear what peak season looks like!

The highlight of our stay (for me) was definitely seeing a show in the West End. It was our last night in London, so Phil took me out for a lobster dinner and a few drinks before seeing The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. It was lots of fun, very romantic and a great night and way to end of trip.

Would I go back? Maybe next time, I’d explore some of the other towns in England instead.

Next stop Italy baby!
