Australia's Heartland

Australia’s Heartland

finding moments of wonder and quietude

An expedition through Australia’s heartland,
an exploration of the rugged and ever changing landscape.
Seeking refuge from the everyday, in search of moments of wonder and quietude.

The BREAKAWAYS

an arid landscape with startling rock formations and stony deserts coloured in tones of autumn - brown, red and rust create a striking colour palette.

Beneath a blanket of stars

camping in remote areas, cocooned by fire and the night sky. Enveloped in darkness, the eerie cacophony of dingos thick in the air, is where I began to feel replenished and whole.

MONOLITH

Uluru holds a mystery and magic that comes from
thousands of years of history, tradition and culture.

There is beauty in the barren

The landscape can be unyielding and isolating,
with fence lines creating boundaries and order to
wayward cattle and traveller.  Ruins scattered along the way, a reminder of the harsh realities of remote outback living and a time long since passed. However, in the barren nothingness there is beauty.

Moments of Magic

Along dusty unsealed roads, there is a feeling of isolation and escape. Slowly there’s a change in scenery, from dark red earthy tones to hues of green and yellow.

The outback an ever changing canvas of colour.

Standing at the waters edge, alone in the stillness of the changing light. The afternoon sun dances across the red rock ridges. I am awestruck!

Strength of the rock
Calm of the rivers
Resurgence of the sun

I was embraced by the beauty of the Australian outback, the strength of the rock, the calm of the rivers and the resurgence of the sun.
In a time and place that is ageless, where visual beauty is surpassed by an ancient wisdom and honesty;
and, where the past speaks to the present; I was stripped bare to bask in the reverence of new beginnings.
